fered substantial losses and has
had to cut staff and programming
as a result. Funding went from
$1,404,576 last year to $584,768
for this year. The cut, however,
is a partial-year funding to reflect
the modification of the Center's
former calendar year budget to a
June 1-May 31 schedule, similar
to Federation's.
Another local agency with few-
er dollars is the Jewish Home for
Aged. It was scaled back
$127,000 from last year to a to-
tal of $403,842. The program that
in recent history included three
separate Federation-owned fa-
cilities will be trimmed to two pri-
vately owned nursing homes for
which Federation provides the
Jewish content and one Federa-
tion-owned facility, Fleischman
Manor. Prentis Manor will close
at the end of 1996.
Not every applicant received
funding. Darchei Torah, an Or-
thodox day school, was again
turned down in its effort to be-
come a Federation constituent
agency. E
