Jacob Frenkel
Reappointed
Jerusalem (JPFS) — Prime Min-
ister Binyamin Netanyahu for-
mally asked Bank of Israel
Governor Jacob Frenkel to stay
in his post for a second, five-year
term, and to head a new council
of economic experts which will
work alongside the cabinet said.
Mr. Frenkel agreed.
The governor, whose reap-
pointment should be approved
by the cabinet, will also attend
cabinet sessions on economic af-
fairs, participate in meetings of
the ministerial committee on pri-
vatization, and personally advise
the premier during the budget's
preparation.
Labor Opposes
Privatization
Jerusalem (JPFS) — The His-
tadrut convened hundreds of
workers representatives from all
the government corporations at
its Jerusalem headquarters to co-
ordinate moves against the new
government's privatization plans.
Histadrut and union leaders
said that privatization has led to
the dismissal of hundreds of
workers and the violation of the
wage and pension rights of those
who remain employed.
Tadiran Talks
With Big Blue
Jerusalem (JPFS) — Tadiran is
negotiating to sell half of its soft-
ware division to IBM following the
company's failure to sign a final
agreement with Electronic Data
Systems (EDS), a subsidiary of
•General Motors, company officials
said.
A Tadiran spokesperson con-
firmed the company is negotiat-
ing with IBM as well as with
several other companies. The dis-
cussed deal is part of the group's
policy to establish cooperation
agreements with multinational
industry leaders.
The company hopes the trans-
action will significantly increase
the division's computer program-
ming business, and encourage
joint projects with IBM in the pro-
gramming and computer fields.
The group's computer software
subsidiaries include Advanced
Technology, Contahal and Tadi-
ran Information Systems. The lat-
ter is one of Israel's largest
systems integration and software
development companies.
Last year, Tadiran signed a
memorandum of understanding
with EDS and its Israeli sub-
sidiary, EDSI, for the sale of 51
percent of Tadiran Information
System's shares for about $9 mil-
lion.
