Plans Forum

The newly created Metropolitan
Detroit Council of Synagogues
and Temples will present "Elec-
tion '96," a forum on critical is-
sues affecting the Jewish
community.
It will be held Wednesday
evening, Sept. 25, at Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek, Southfield,
and Sunday morning, Oct. 20, at
Temple Israel, West Bloomfield.
It is co-sponsored by Hadas-
sah, the Jewish Community
Center, the Jewish Communi-
ty Council, Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, The Jew-
ish News, National Council of
Jewish Women and ORT.

two individu-
als at their recent installation
dinner, naming Rabbi Julian
Cook and Temple President
John Kamins as co-recipients of
the Robert L. Rosenbush Award.
The award honors those who
demonstrate a devotion to Broth-
erhood and dedication to Torah
(scholarship), Avodah (worship)
and Gemilut Hasodim (deeds of
loving kindness). Both Rabbi
Cook and John Kamins were cit-
ed for their support for and out-
standing efforts on behalf of
Brotherhood during the past
year.
Rabbi Cook was honored as
well for his many years of assis-
tance with the installation of a
Simcha Leaf on the Temple's
Tree of Life; he also was given
a bronze replica of the Simcha
Leaf to take with him as he as-
sumes the pulpit of the Central
Synagogue of Nassau County in
Rockville Center, N.Y.
