MARROW page 20

donors and workers. The bagel
company did the same. Rock Fi-
nancial especially should be ap-
plauded for its part in putting this
together and underwriting the
event.
Shame on those who attempt-
ed to gain at someone's expense.

"A Match For Life" donor drive is about shared beliefs. A Match For Life" is

about family, close friends and a community coming together pro-actively taking
the fate of Lauren Cohn into their own hands as our search for a possible donor
came up without a match...In just a short time, these people and hundreds of
other perfect strangers have organized what we expect will become the single
largest donor drive ever in America... The people of 'A Match For Life" are
exceptional... They have renewed our faith and should be recognized for their
efforts... They have given us the greatest sense of what a community can
accomplish when called upon... This weekend, all of those people who are tested
by giving a small sample of their blood, might save a precious life. And quite
possibly, one day, that life could be someone very close to you.

Dismayed
By 'Fluff'

Congratulations on receiving sev-
eral awards from the Jewish
Press Association, although only
one was of Jewish interest.
I, and many others I am sure,
are dismayed and disgusted by
the amount of "fluff' you print.
Your mission is to print Jew-
ish news, not to compete with
Crain's Business, Detroit Month-
ly, People, Prevention magazine,
Athletics magazine, etc.
You print Detroit Jewish
items, but none concerning na-
tional or international news, and
Israel is covered by commenta-
tors only.
A Conservative congregation
in Utica, N.Y., learns that a board
member and past president has
been a member of Jews for Jesus
for years; Sen. Metzenbaum re-
signs from the Reform movement
due to a ruling disqualifying his
grandson from being bar mitzvah
because he attends a Christian
Sunday school; the chief rabbi of
Great Britain is at odds with the
lay leaders of his constituency.
None of these stories appeared
in The Detroit Jewish News.
Why?
Each year the Detroit Allied
Jewish Campaign makes a con-
tribution to the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency so that it can
disseminate national and inter-
national news to Jewish publica-
tions, which in our area is The
Jewish News. Your paper used to
use this source; why don't you do
it now?
As a member of a family that
has subscribed to The Jewish
News for almost 50 years, I am
asking you to return to your mis-
sion: Print Jewish news.
