was elected by the National
Foundation for Jewish Culture
(NFJC) to the office of vice pres-
ident. Mr. August is the president
and CEO of Stone, August, Bak-
er Communications Companies,
where he leads the marketing
and client service activities of the
firm. Along time national and lo-
cal Jewish leader, Mr. August is
president of the Michigan Jew-
ish conference and a board mem-
ber of the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency. He is past vice president
of the Jewish Federation of Met-
ropolitian Detroit and past chair
of its Project Renewal committee.

PAUL RUBENSTEIN, director
of guidance at Southfield High
School, was awarded "Counselor
of the Year" for 1995-96 by the
Oakland Counseling Association.
Mr. Rubenstein has been em-
ployed by Southfield Public
Schools for the past 34 years. Mr.
Rubenstein will retire at the end
of this school year.
MICHAEL D. LANGNAS has
been appointed as a member of
the American Bar Association's
Special Committee on Youth Ed-
ucation for Citizenship for a one-
year term commencing with the
adjournment of the ABA's annu-
al meeting in August. Mr. Lang-
nas is the president of Langnas
& Associates, P.C., a Southfield
law firm specializing in real es-
tate, corporate and commercial
transactions, estate planning and
general litigation. Mr. Langnas
is also the chairperson of the
Michigan State Bar Committee
on Law- Related Education and
president of the Center for Civic
Education through Law.
ZACHARY MONDROW has
received the Sue Smith-Miller
Scholarship Award for excelling
growth this year in language arts.
He was also awarded for excel-
lence in advanced computers
along with an award for honor
roll. He has just graduated eighth
grade and will attend West
Bloomfield High School in the
fall.
AMY FINKEL, graduating se-
nior at North Farmington High
School, received the Raider Cup
at Senior Honor Awards. The cup
is presented to a female athlete by
the North Farmington Athletic
Department, recognizing athletic
excellence and academic commit-
ment. Amy received a total of 11
varsity letters in a three-sport ca-
reer. She also was honored at a re-
cent Farmington Board of
Education Meeting for being
named All America Academic by
the National Interscholastic
Swimming Coaches Association.

ANNA MICKEL is the winner
of the Margaret Whitehead
Award in Leadership by the
Michigan Recreation and Park
Association. Ms. Mickel was
chosen for her involvement on
many committees and commis-
sions that help investigate and
study the needs, concerns and
problems facing seniors in South-
field, Southeast Michigan and
statewide.

MICHAEL A. ROBBINS, a
Birmingham attorney, recently
appeared as a guest expert on the
NBC "Today Show" discussing
divorce reform in the state of
Michigan. Mr. Robbins also was
interviewed on the same subject
for an upcoming segment on the
"NBC Nightly News." Mr. Rob-
bins specializes in the area of
family law and is the past chair-
person of the State Bar of Michi-
gan Family Law Section. He is
also a partner in the Birmingham.

NAOMI GAYNOR, daughter of
Dr. Soll and Shirley Gaynor of
Flint, graduated cum laude from
the Detroit College of Law, where
she was also the editor in chief of
the Law Review in her senior
year. She is a graduate of Michi-
gan State University where she
received both her bachelor and
master degrees in labor relations.
Naomi will work as a prehearing
attorney for the Michigan Court
of Appeals.
DR. EDWARD F. STEIN of
Southfield, past president of the
Michigan Optometric Associa-
tion, has been awarded the Hu-
manitarian of the Year award of
Region V, Head Start Associa-
tion. As the six-state regional
winner, Dr. Stein has also been
nominated for the National Head
Start Association Humanitarian
of the year award. Dr. Stein was
nominated for the regional award
by the Michigan Head Start As-
sociation because of his work in
providing vision screening for
three- and four-year-olds at Sinai
Hospital in Detroit the last three
years.
GABRIEL BOLKOSKY, son of
Lorraine and Sidney Bolkosky of
Oak Park, won the $500 second
prize Coda Bow Award for Violin
in the Senior Division of the
Ninth Biennial American String
Teachers Association National
Solo Competition. Gabriel stud-
ied violin with Paul Kantor at the
University of Michigan in Ann
Arbor and recently received his
master's degree in chamber mu-
sic.
