future...

1995-'96

Mission accomplished:

Many wonderful accomplishments have taken place over
the past year at the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit. Let us share a little of this DACHAS
with you...

• The creation of an active Parent Teacher's Group
which sponsors such programs as the Dan Hodgins
seminar on practical and effective strategies for dealing
with young children which attracted over 500 parents.

• The Center joined forces with Walled Lake Schools'
to integrate students into the JCC Kindergarten
Enrichment program.

• A new JCC Child Development pre-school Summer
Camp program was established and now caters to
over 60 children per session.

• The JCC Marlins summer swim team was formed and
already has 35 participating members.

• Aerobics class offerings have been expanded bring-
ing us to a total offering of 53 aerobics classes at the
Maple/Drake building alone.

• New Sports Camps have been added, such as Rock
Climbing and Football. The JCC now offers a total of
11 Sports Camps with an increased enrollment of 100
percent over last year.

• With the help of over 100 volunteers, the DeRoy
Pre-school, and Weinberg Biblical playgrounds at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris (JPM) building were refurbished
and renovated.

• A two-week long celebration of citizenship at JPM
brought the community together to view exhibits,
educational programs, Russian entertainment, New
American entertainment and a H.I.A.S. speaker.

• Thousands of people visited the Janice Charach
Epstein Museum/Gallery last year, to view numerous
exhibits including everything from emerging artists to
an original Picasso.

• With the community's support, the JCC Development
Department made it possible to send over 350 children
in need of financial assistance to Summer Camp this
year.

• People throughout the community celebrated at the
JCC by throwing over 1,000 parties, including bar
mitvahs, bat mitzvahs and birthday parties.

• The JCC Encore Series, implemented by the Adult
and Family Enrichment Department, enticed people of
all ages with such performers as Gitit Shoval and the
Klezmer Conservatory Band.

• The Institute for Retired Professionals celebrated its
10 year anniversary of peer
learning programs for senior
adults.
