Smith was chosen after his
AZA chapter won the Jewish
Community Council's Walter E.
Klein Award last week. He is a
past president of Strauss AZA
and expanded its social-action
programs. He read a prepared
statement on "unity" at Sunday's
interfaith celebration.
Rabbi Bennett was one of four
clergy who delivered the opening
prayers, and Ms. Gershon sang
traditional Jewish songs. Other
performers included an Arab mu-
sician and gospel and evangeli-
cal choirs.

The Lyric Chamber Ensemble
• (LCE) will host its fourth annu-
al "Adopt a Young Musician"
event — Star Search — 12:30
p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the
home of Tamara and Eugene
Friedman. A champagne
brunch will be served. Musical
entertainment will be provided
by keyboard artist Ben Oppen-
\ heim and students of the Lyric
• Chamber Ensemble summer
camp. The cost to attend the
event is $50 per person or $75
per couple. Sponsors who pay
$250 can attend the brunch and
send one child to the 1996 sum-
mer camp program. The event
will honor Bloomfield Hills res-
• ident Betty Gerisch. Some of
