which he's sold 35, 20 of them
used. New Trotters retail for
about $3,500.
Mr. Sherbin's best customers
are area hospitals, which also
provide over 25 percent of his
clientele through referrals.
He'd like to pump up sales to
individual consumers, but he re-
alizes it takes time. Plus, the
business is seasonal; most peo-
ple like to take their exercise out-
side during the few warm
months there are in Michigan.
Eventually, Mr. Sherbin says,
he'd like to turn the current
warehouse into a shipping/re-
ceiving center and open a store
that is more akin to a typical re-
tail setting.
"I'm in a business that's not
going away," Mr. Sherbin says.

Volkswagen Joins
Dead Sea Works

Jerusalem (JPFS) —Volkswagen
and the Dead Sea Works official-
ly finalized and signed an agree-
ment to launch a magnesium
production joint venture, which
involves the largest-ever Euro-
pean investment in Israel.
Leaders of the two companies
also held the first board meeting
of their newly formed joint com-
pany, Dead Sea Magnesium.
Initial investment in the pro-
ject, which will produce the light
metal believed destined to become
a major component in the next
generation of automotive prod-
ucts, stands at $400 million.
additional $300 million is
scheduled to arrive within two
years, upon the completion of the
project's second phase. The over-
all value of the project is esti-
mated at $800 million.
The project was recently the
subject of some controversy, since
it received a 38 percent-of-in-
vestment government grant, in
accordance with the Capital In-
vestment Aid Law, which was re-
cently redefined to grant 34
percent instead of 38 percent.
Opponents of the grant pro-
grams, whose large-scale benefi-
ciaries include Intel and Motorola,
said Israeli high-tech has become
sufficiently attractive to foreign
investors without such aid.
It took a personal promise by
Prime Minister Shimon Peres to
Volkswagen President Ferdinand
Piech that the grant promise
would be fulfilled for the project
to get the final go-ahead.
