Ryan Fields

RYAN COURTNEY FIELDS

has just competed his sophomore
year in the Honors Program at
the University of Michigan. He
has been awarded two under-
graduate research grants: in the
Department of Chemistry, the
Alumni Grant, working under
the direction of Dr. Pecoraro; in
the Department of Oncology
through the University of Michi-
gan Comprehensive Cancer Cen-
ter, Ryan was awarded a SPORE
Developmental Student Award,
conducting research in the area
of prostate cancer.

EMILY DUBB has been named

an All-American Scholar by the
United States Achievement
Academy. Emily attends Bloom-
field Andover High School and
will appear in the All-American
Scholar Yearbook.

RABBI A. IRVING SCHNIP
PER has recently received the

following awards: a 1996 Michi-
gan Week Volunteer Leadership
Award for community service, a
Lifetime Volunteer Achievement
Award from the Greater West
Bloomfield Celebrate Michigan
Committee and a special tribute
from the state of Michigan,
signed by Governor Engler.

RONALD VICTOR, Birming-

ham Groves sophomore, has
been elected president of the
Groves Student Congress for the
1996-1997 school year. He was
treasurer of the Student Con-
gress for 1995-1996; he is an
honors student who participates
in drama and is a member of the

junior varsity tennis team.

JONATHAN HUGH BLAVIN,

who attends the Honors College
at the University of Michigan,
has been awarded the William
J. Branstrom Prize, which is
awarded to freshmen who rank
in the upper 5 percent of their
class. Jonathan will spend the
summer in Washington, D.C., in-
terning in the office of Repre-
sentative Joseph P. Kennedy of
Massachusetts.

Society Selects
New Board

Jewish Genealogical Society of
Michigan has selected its 1996-
1997 slate of officers. President,

Bereavement
Support Group

Temple Israel will begin another
nine-week Bereavement Support
group on Tuesdays, 7:30-9:30

p.m., from July 2 to Aug. 27.
The group, which meets at the
temple, will be led by a trained
facilitator. The Bereavement
Support Group is offered free of

charge to any member of the Jew-
ish community who has suffered
the death of a loved one. To reg-
ister, call Nancy Gad-Harf at the
temple office, 661-5700.
