I am a former VISTA Volunteer (the domestic peace corps) who has stayed active in community affairs. I am a member of a vari- ety of professional, civic and arts organizations. I was raised in a tradition which places a premium on the value of education. The public schools are one of our community's most important resources. The public schools do more than teach aca- demic subjects. They are where children come in contact with, learn about and learn how to get along with people who are dif- ferent from themselves. Our society's continuing economic and cultural vitality depends on how well we educate our children to meet the future intellectual, technologic and social challenges which they will face. My family has always encouraged volun- teer work. I have reached a point in my career where I have knowl- edge, ability and (now that my children are a little older) time to contribute to my community in a more significant way. There is no better place to serve in helpingto set policy for our children's education. Bloomfield Hills — Vote for two (4-year term) Bruce W. This is seldom presented for public edification and reaction. There are many factors that mitigate against good academic content.
