The Farmington Hills Democrat took advan-

fair in Orchard Lake to shake some new hands
and recruit supporters.
Although many have written off Mr. Brickner
because he is a Democrat in the heavily Repub-
lican 15th District, the attorney still believes he
has a good chance of winning the state Senate
seat.
On Tuesday, voters in the 15th District will
choose between Mr. Brickner and Republican
Willis Bullard, a 14-year veteran of the state
House. Both candidates are competing for a va-
cancy created by the retirement of West Bloom-
field Republican David Honigman.
Sen. Honigman gave Rep. Bullard an early en-
dorsement, announcing support for his longtime
friend and colleague before the May 13 primary.
In the primary, Rep. Bullard beat his closet chal-
lenger, Rep. Barbara Dobb of Commerce Town-
ship, by just under 2,000 votes.
Mr. Bullard received almost 5,000 more votes
than Mr. Brickner, beating the Democrat in every
city and township in the district, except West
Bloomfield.
Spending is expected to be a factor in the race.
While Mr. Brickner spent just under $700 for an
uncontested primary, Rep. Bullard exhausted
more than $170,000 to beat three Republican chal-
lengers. Mr. Brickner plans to shell out between
$12,000 and $15,000 on the general election while
Rep. Bullard will spend in excess of $25,000.
