more mass in the heel and toe. The
new Titanic irons are $1200 per
set in steel and $1,675 in graphite.
Karsten Manufacturing's
Ping ISI is sold in stainless steel,
copper and nickel. It is designed
for the better golfer. The slightly
larger Stainless Steel ISI K mod-
el is geared for the average golfer
(Stainless, $90; Copper, $115;
Nickel, $150).
The VAS+ has been redesigned
so that it doesn't look as odd and
the purple medallion on the back
was changed to silver. The iron's
inset hosel has been redesigned
so that more of the clubface is seen
at address. Oversized, the price
per iron with steel shaft is $95;
with graphite, $140.
Calloway's Big Bertha irons
have gone through some minor
design changes including moving
the center of gravity higher on the
new models, particularly on the
short irons. This should result in
a lower ball flight which is pre-
ferred by better golfers (Steel
$125, Graphite $170).
Cobra also has the Senior's
Oversize Irons and Woods with
graphite shafts, senior flex and
oversized grips. The new entry for
the Ben Hogan Company is the
EDGE GCD, which stands for
gradual cavity design. This design
again moves the center of gravity
progressively through the set, low-
er on the long irons and higher on
the short irons (cast steel $710 a
set; forged $920 a set).

In the past, players selected the loft
of every wedge because that's what
affects how high and how far shots
fly. Today players are more sophis-
ticated and are paying attention to
the sole or the bottom of the
