The Middle Fork River, famous
for its up-river salmon run in July,
is just one of the white-water itin-
eraries of this company. Another is
rafting the historic Salmon River in
Idaho. Packages generally include
transportation from a nearby city
to the river, five days and four nights
of guided rafting, meals and pro-
visions for rafting, and camping
equipment including life jackets,
waterproof gear bags, sleeping bags
and pads, tents, and, sometimes, a
night's lodging. Other trips include
eight- and 10-day rafting trips on
the Colorado River through the Up-
per Grand Canyon and three- and
four-day trips rafting through the
Lower Grand Canyon.
One and two-day trips also are
planned for the American River in
California, and one-, two- or three-
day trips for the Kern River in Cal-
ifornia. Approximate costs:
seven-day trips, $500; one-day
trips, $100, two-day trips, $200.
Outer Edge Expeditions,

local group offers lengthy white-
water rafting expeditions to exot-
ic places and lots of customized
service. Outer Edge specializes in
small-group expeditions, ranging
from one to 10 people. The white-
water segments range from one-
day white-knuckle experiences on
remote rivers in Borneo to three-
day hair-raising trips on the great
Zambezi River in Africa.
Sometimes, white-water rafting
takes only one day of the expedi-
tion, which may include hiking
and mountain biking, while for
others, the rafting is the major ac-
tivity.
