COLLEGE BOUND What To Take JENNIFER FINER SECTION EDITOR PHOTO TAKEN AT F&M I N FARMI NGTON HI LLS Left: It's a common sight in any dorm with a community bath- room: the bucket bathroom-bound students schlep to the show- er. The contents include the basic necessities of shampoo, conditioner, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, razors and shaving cream. It's the easiest way to get everything to the bathroom, and you're guaranteed not to forget the soap or shampoo. ❑ A futon. • Wood for a loft ❑ Carpet for do/in room O Shower bucket ❑ Backpack ❑ Bike and lock ❑ Study lamp and book light ❑ Calendar and bulletin board ❑ Tape recorder for lectures ❑ Closet organizers 'MVO WAN NI 33V1d Nand 31-111V N3)IV1 010Hd 71 Milk crates O Comforter • PHOTO COURTESY OF TREK Sheets Above: A bicycle is a necessity for any car-less collegiate. Even those who have cars on campus often opt to bike to class. It's eas- ier than trying to find a parking spot. Besides, it's faster to cut across campus on a bike. The Trek brand is among the most pop- ular among students. Although Trek manufactures bikes that cost thousands of dollars for the serious off-road enthusiast, low- er-end bikes like the 820 (pictured above) are more reasonable and can be found at most local bike shops. Left: Futons are great in any living situation. The couch that turns into a bed is especially popular on campus. The wood- framed piece of furniture comes in a variety of colors and pat- terns to match any decor. Once you figure out how to open and close the futon, you may just think it's the greatest invention since sliced bread. Right: Fleece Patagonia jackets are as common on campus as sweat- shirts with a college logo. Although the jackets were once worn mostly by outdoor enthusiasts, it didn't take long for their comfort to be appreci- ated by others, particularly students. Patagonias are great transitional jackets for when it's too cold not to wear a jacket but not warm enough to go without one.
