Celebrates

Congregation Beth Shalom's
Religious School marked
Lag B'Omer this month
with a major celebration on
the playground at Norup
Middle School and Avery El-
ementary.
Three tents were set up
and three characters from
the Lag B'Omer holiday —
Bar Kochba (Richard Berg),
Rabbi Akiva (Shelley
Littman) and Shimon bar
Yachai (Dan Barth) — told
their stories.
The students and their
parents also participated in
a search of the "Field of
Clues" for answers to the 18
Lag B'Omer questions, as
Well as softball, basketball,
sack races, tug of war and a
picnic.

Heads Shaarey Zedek

Alan S. Schwartz was elected president of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek at its 135th annual
meeting. Mr. Schartz joined the law firm of Hon-
nigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn after his law
school graduation and is now a partner and vice
chairman and a member of-the board of direc-
tors of the firm. He is a director and executive
committee member of the Karrnanos Cancer In-
stitute, a member of the board of governors of
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit,

Shoshana Ron In. Concert

the capital needs committee of the United Jew-
ish Charities and a past executive committee
member and director of JARC.
Elected with Mr. Schwartz were Dottie Wag-
ner, first vice president; Lawrence A. Berry, sec-
ond vice president; James A. Safran, treasurer;
and Steven R. Weisberg, secretary. Newly elect-
ed board members are Frank J. Ellias, Michael
Horowitz, Robert Schechter and Barbara Smith.

Sholem Aleichem Institute's Moishe Ham- Memo-
rial Foundation will present its annual cultural
event on May 19, at 3 p.m. at the Agency for Jew-
ish Education, 21550 West 12 Mile Road, South-
field. There is no admission charge.
Featured will be the international singer
Shoshana Ron. She will perform folk songs, bal-
lads and show tunes. Miss Ron has ap-
peared on Broadway, in the Yiddish
Shoshana
Teater and at Lincoln Center.
Ron

Bernard Katz at the piano.
