David W. Schostak is president
and chief operating officer of
Schostak Brothers, a real estate
development company, where he
is responsible for the develop-
ment, financ-
ing and
accounting di-
visions of the
company. He is
a member of
the Michigan
Bar Associa-
tion, the Amer-
ican Bar
Association,
Oakland
County Bar
David Schostak
Association as
well as being a
licensed Real Estate Broker in
Michigan. Mr. Schostak is active
in Jewish communal activities in-
cluding serving on various com-
mittees at the Jewish Federation
and being a member of the UJA
Young Leadership Cabinet.
Howard Tapper is president
of Tapper's Jewelry and has been
involved in the jewelry industry
for over 30 years. He is a mem-
ber of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek and Congregation Beth
Shalom where he was president
of the Beth Shalom Men's Club
as well as chaired the syna-
gogue's special fund raising ef-
forts. He is a past board member
of the Fresh Air Society, JARC,
and the Hebrew Free Loan and
has also served as a vice-presi-
dent of the Jewish Community
Center.
This year's honorees are: Es-
telle and Philip L. Elkus from
Congregation Shaarey Zedek;
Mary and Abraham Gamer
from Congregation Beth Achim;
Sue Ellen and Alan Jay Kauf-
man from Adat Shalom Syna-
gogue; Melvin Kepes from
Congreation B'nai Moshe; and
Suzanne K. and Burton R.
Shifman from Congregation
Beth Shalom. These Second
Century Award Recipients will
be honored at a reception on
May 30, at the home of Marlene
and Paul Borman. In addition,
Rabbi Irwin Groner will be ac-
knowledged locally as the 1996
recipient of the Seminary's dis-

tinguished Wolpert Menorah for
outstanding rabbinic leadership.

Symposium Set
For Grandparents

The Jewish Community Center
_of Metropolitan Detroit will pre-
sent the third annual Creative
Grandparenting Symposium at
West Bloomfield facility on Tues-
day, June 18, at 7:30. National-
ly known psychologist and
author Dr. Sonya Friedman will
speak on "Being a Grandparent:
A Change of Life." The Tuesday
evening program also will fea-
ture a resource fair for grand-
parents.
The symposium will continue
on Thursday, June 20, at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris building.
The topic will be "Closing the
Gap Between Radio Grandpar-
ents and Cyber Kids," speaker to
be announced. There will be a
presentation for the Russian-
speaking population addressing
the culture gap between grand-
parents and their increasingly
Americanized grandchildren.
This program is provided free
of charge.
