For the others, graduation was on Saturday in the Masonic Temple's Scottish Rite Cathedral. Rabbi Antin is now looking for full-time work in the legal field. He interned the last two summers with the federal Equal Employ- ment Opportunities Commission, but budget cuts have hampered his efforts to find a position as a federal attorney. Born in New York, but raised in the Washington, D.C., area, "I grew up around government peo- ple," Rabbi Antin said. 'The gov- ernment is more tolerant of Sabbath observance, plus it's a saner way to practice law. "You still have your occasional 50-60-70-hour weeks, but those are not as consistent as in private practice. And after all these years, I want to be more involved as a community activist, rather than a community observer." DAVID ZEMAN STAFF WRITER Less than two weeks after the Workmen's Circle nursery school in Oak Park announced it would close, two former teachers have apparently come to the rescue. In letters sent to parents this week, teachers Jonny and Miri- am Levy declared that they have rented the one-room schoolhouse on Coolidge, just south of 11 Mile Road, for the upcoming school year. While the new program, which will be known as the Fieldstone Preschool, will no longer carry the Workmen's Circle designation, the Levys promised they will "in- corporate the same principles and philosophies" the children receive under the current program. School officials involved in the talks say they have agreed in principle to the rental arrange- ment but that no contract has been signed with the Levys, who are brother and sister. Selma Goode, the district chair at Workmen's Circle, said the pair have yet to secure the proper building and educational licens- es and that the exact amount of the rent is still in negotiation. "But we're committed to work- ing out the snags," she said. Johnny Levy concurred, de- scribing the licensing applications as 'just more of a technicality." Many parents have already submitted nonrefundable deposits to enroll their children elsewhere. But in their letter, the Levys say they will reimburse up to $125 in deposit money if the parents send their children to the Fieldstone Preschool. Brighton (810) 220-4935 M.B. SIGNAL, INC.
