"I'd like to make a contribution to purchase
food for a poor family. Who do I call to ensure
proper use of my donation?"
Jewish Information and Referral Service matches people who want to
perform a mitzvah with agencies who could use one.
One call will put you in touch with Yad Ezra, the Jewish community's
kosher food pantry, or other organizations who help feed the hungry. Or, if you have
furniture, clothing, equipment or other items to donate, JIS will connect you
.10 Yuman
with agencies who can benefit most from your donations.

10:30 p.m. —A quick post-show
bite or cast outing (bowling nights
were a favorite of one of the com-
pany managers).
On the first day of Passover, at
the apartment of ensemble mem-
ber Mindy Paige Benson, eight of
the cast (Jewish and non-Jewish)
got together at 3 p.m. before that
night's show for a special seder.
"We had Reform Haggadahs,
with the usual Passover fare —
homemade matzah-ball soup,"
said Sklar. "It was great; we
made it about Evan."
Evan is Evan Jay Newman, 9,
who plays Chip the Teacup and
travels with his mom, Elaine,
with the show. Elaine Newman
planned to host a seder for some
cast members and her husband
and two sons here in the South-
field apartment she and Evan are
sharing during the Detroit run.
But when Newman's husband
became ill, she had to return
home to Marlboro, N.J., for the
week, leaving Evan to be taken
care of by the cast.
'We directed the entire seder
toward Evan. 'Do you know why
we do this? Do you know what
this is a reference to?' " were some
of the questions asked of New-
man during the cast seder.
"Evan's the most amazing kid I've
ever met. It's almost frightening
just how intelligent he is ... he's
an unbelievable, thoughtful and
caring young man," says Sklar.
Chris Monteleone finds cre-
ative ways to pass the time on the
road away from his girlfriend, an
actress in New York. When he
played Gaston two weeks ago
while Tony Lawson was on va-
cation, his girlfriend came in for
a week to see him in the show
and then they went to Toronto on
his Monday/Tuesday off.
"We usually see each other
about every five weeks," says
Monteleone. "I always travel with
my laptop computer ... we're get-
ting to know each other using the
Net, which saves us about $70 a
month in phone bills."
While in Detroit, Sklar's tak-
