JTS Award
For Cantor
Cantor Emeritus Louis Klein of
Congregation B'nai Moshe will
receive the David P. Putterman
Award of the Jewish Theological
Seminary Shabbat morning, Sat-
urday, May 11, in recognition of
his lifetime of achievement as a
chazzan. His positive impact on
Jewish life has extended far be-
yond the confines of his own con-
gregation and the metro Detroit
Jewish community.
The award will be presented to
Cantor Klein by Rabbi Morton
Leifinan, dean of the Cantors In-
stitute of the Jewish Theological
Seminary, who will be visiting
B'nai Moshe as scholar in resi-
dence for a weekend of music and
learning dedicated to the mem-
ory of Rabbi Moses Lehrman.
Though officially retired from
his duties at B'nai Moshe since
last October, Cantor Klein has
continued to teach students at
Hillel Day School this year and
frequently leads the davening at
B'nai Moshe on Shabbat and
Yom Tov.
Services will begin at 9 a.m.
Kiddush will follow.
