students as high school athletes
of the year. To be nominated in
this category, students must be in
9th-12th grade, be competing in
recognized high-school sports and
have good academic standing.
Nominating forms must be re-
turned to the MJSHF by May 31.

Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of
Fame, 6600 W. Maple Road, West

Marx Reaches
Tourney Semifinals

Nine members of the Marx AZA
basketball team and two BBG
members traveled last weekend
to Atlanta, Ga., where they par-
ticipated in the first-ever B'nai
B'rith Youth Organization
AZAA/MBA convention.
AZAA (the initials mimic the
NCAA tournament) was founded
in 1993 to bring back athletic com-
petition among AZA members in
the United States and Canada. At
the same time, a Mind, Body and
Attitude (MBA) program was de-
signed to promote the mental
health and physical fitness of B'nai
B'rith Girls.

In Atlanta, Marx came in first
in its bracket, including a win over
last year's champ, a Florida Coast
team that had lost only one game
in the past two years. Most of the
teams participating won their re-
gional convention tournaments.
The winner of the three brack-
ets and a wild card team advanced
to the semifinals, where Marx lost
in a close game to Louisville, Ky.,
and Chicago beat the Cotton
States (Memphis) team. Chicago
went on to beat Louisville in the
final.
Matt Rochkind, a senior var-
sity basketball player for Cran-
brook, was high scorer for Marx.
The other players, all of whom at-
tend Berkley High School, were
seniors Eric Adelman, Jeremy
Adler, Chad DeWolf, Marc Selik,
Sean Stephenson, Matt Weiser
and Dan Zimmerman, and junior
Seth Glaser. Marx AZA adviser
Andy Gutman accompanied the
team to Atlanta.
Berkley High School juniors El-
yse Stettner of Zahav BBG and
Carly Block of Brice BBG attend-
ed the MBA convention, with pro-
grams on nutrition and eating
disorders, step aerobics, volleyball,
self-defense and date rape.

The B'nai B'rith Golf Classic will
be held Monday, June 3, at Edge-
wood Country Club.
The event includes lunch, din-
ner, and contests, plus golf A shot-
gun start will be held at 12:30 p.m.
All proceeds for the event benefit
B'nai B'rith's youth-serving agen-
cies.
For information, call the B'nai
B'rith Foundation, (810) 855-5255.
