On Saturday, April 27, Juliya
Semenova will be the guest
speaker during the Shabbat Ser-
vice at Congregation Beth
Achim.
A teen-ager from the former
Soviet Union, she will speak
about her Jewish experiences
and her trip to Israel last sum-
mer with USY Israel Pilgrim-
age. Ms. Semenova immigrated
to the United States in the sum-
mer of 1991 from Moldavia. She
is a senior at Berkley High
School and involved in the Na-
tional Honor Society, Peer Men-
tor Program, Spanish Club, and
Berkley's Symphony Orchestra.
The service, which begins at
8:45 a.m., is open to the public.
A kiddish will follow services.

Service, Dinner
Adat Shalom Synagogue mem-
bers will celebrate Israel Inde-
pendence Day at a Yom
Ha'atzma'ut service and dinner
on Friday, April 26. This year,
kindergarten, , aleph and bet stu-
dents in the synagogue's reli-
gious school and their families
will join with the rest of the con-
gregation for the event.
Following a Kabbalat Shab-
bat service at 6 p.m., there will
be a Shabbat dinner. Adat
Shalom clergy will lead prayers
for the occasion. Cantor Glantz
is arranging songfest.
The dinner is co-sponsored by
the Adat Shalom Jewish Expe-
riences For Families Committee
and the religious school.
