Simcha Sets
Social Event

Are you a parent of a special needs pre-school age child?

Simcha, an organization for Jew-
ish lesbians, gays, their families
and friends, will present a games
night: an evening of board
games, card games, socializing
and refreshments on Saturday,
April 27, at 7 p.m.

in a private home in the north

Temple Israel
Chamber Concert

Fred Raimi, cellist, and Jane
Hawkins, pianist, will perform
in a recital in the next Schmier
Chapel Chamber Series Concert
at Temple Israel on Sunday,
April 28, at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Raimi, a Detroit native,
was educated at the Johns Hop-
kins University and the Juilliard
School of Music. He has been a
member of the Ciompi Quartet
since 1974, when he joined the
Duke faculty. Previously he was
cellist of the Amici Quartet at
Hamilton College and Colgate
University. He has performed at
Monadnock Music and at the
Marlboro and Spoleto Festivals.
He was one of 100 cellists who
performed in Carnegie Hall in
1969 under the direction of Pablo
Casals and also played in Casals'
final master class in 1973.
Ms. Hawkins graduated with
distinction from the Royal Acad-
emy of Music in London, where
she studied both cello and piano.
Her experience includes ap-
pearances with the Dorian Wind
Quintet, the Ciompi String Quar-
tet, the Chicago Symphony
Chamber Players and the Amer-
ican Chamber Players at the Li-
brary of Congress. A faculty
member at Duke University dur-
ing the academic year, Ms.
Hawkins spends her summers
teaching and performing at the
Musicorda Festival in Massa-
chusetts. She is a founding mem-
ber of the Mallarme Chamber
Players and the North Carolina
Chamber Soloists.

Gitit Shoval-Jerusalem3000 Cel-
ebration, in commemoration of
the Trimillenium anniversary of
Jerusalem, will appear at the
Maple-Drake on Sunday, April
21, at 3:30 p.m. This is a family
concert. General admission:
member-adult $5; child $4; non-
member-adult $6; child $5.

Great Decisions 1996 will start
on Wednesday, May 1, and run
through June 19. The first in this
series of eight will be on "Foreign
Policy and the U.S. Political Sys-
tem."
Rabbi Shmuel Irons will lead
a series of four lectures in the li-
brary at 8 p.m. from May 7-28.
No charge.
"From Jerusalem With Love,"
featuring the Israel Lyric Trio,
will appear at Maple-Drake on
Sunday, May 12, at 3:30 p.m.
The trio, founded by pianist/com-
poser Rami Bar-Niv, includes
flutist Wendy Eisler-Kashy and
soprano Cara Goodrich. Israeli
works, songs in Ladino and Yid-
dish as well as Chasidic songs
will be featured. Admission:
adults $3; children $2. Mothers
and/or grandmothers accompa-
nied by their children or grand-
children or carrying photos of the
children will be admitted free of
charge. Refreshments will be
available for purchase.
Artists from the Michigan
Opera Theatre will perform on
Monday, May 13, at 2 p.m. in the
Janice Charach Epstein Muse-
um/ Gallery for the Si and Muriel
Israel Concert. Artists include
baritone Mark Vondrak, lyric so-
prano Maria Cimarelli and pi-
anist Kevin Bylsma. Admission:
members $2; non-members $3.

Fatal Crash
Is Discussed

The plane crash of Jessica
Dubroff will be the topic of the
next Detroit Jewish Judicial
Seminar titled 'What Are Chil-
dren for? Or, Who was really fly-
ing the Plane?" The lunch and
learn will be on Wednesday, May `--\
1, in the Riverside Conference
room 700A of the Detroit
City/County building at 12:15
p.m. Rabbi Herschel Finman will
lead the discussion.
Kosher lunch is $10 by reser-
vation; information can be re-

Jewish Hour
Airs Sunday

This week's program of The Jew-
ish Hour, hosted by Herschel
Finman, will feature Levi Shem-
tov, director of the Daniel Sobel
Friendship Circle. The program
will air on WPON - 1460 AM on
Sunday, April 28, at noon.
The Daniel Sobel Friendship
Circle is an Outreach Counsel-
ing center. Rabbi Shemtov will
discuss how the circle works and
retell some of the more interest-
ing cases that have occurred.
