came for JFS just as a Skillman
Foundation grant ran out. The
Skillman money helped the
agency get the Windows program
started.
The name Windows comes
from the notion that in a family-
violence situation, secrets are kept
from the outside world. 'The con-
cept of a window is to let the light
shine in so there won't be any
more secrets, and so we can break
the cycle of violence," Mr. Good-
man said.
Windows has more than 40
open cases.

Wishner To Keynote
Council Alumni Reunion

Maynard Wishner, president of
the Council ofJewish Federations,
will be the keynote speaker at the
Jewish Community Council's
Board Alumni Reunion on Tues-
day, April 30, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue.
Mr. Wishner will discuss the
roles ofJewish community coun-
cils and Jewish community rela-
tions councils and how they have
evolved.
He is the immediate past chair
of the National Jewish Commu-
nity Relations Advisory Council
•and has served as chairman of the
Illinois Humanities Council and
as president of the Jewish Feder-
ation of Metropolitan Chicago.
He is a past national president
of the American Jewish Commit-
tee and served as chief prosecutor
for the city of Chicago, executive
director of the Chicago Commis-
sion on Human Relations and was
an actor in Yiddish theater.
