The Holocaust Memorial Center
will remember the 6 million Jews
who died in the Holocaust and Is-
rael's victims of terrorism on
April 14, during the community's
annual Holocaust commemora-
tion held in the Maple-Drake
Jewish Community Center at 1
p.m.
The Memorial Academy cere-
mony will mark the 51st an-
niversary of the end of the
Holocaust and the 53rd anniver-
sary of the Warsaw Ghetto Up-
rising. U.S. armed service units,
representing Team Selfridge Air
Force Base, under the command
of Brigadier General Allen Ness,
will participate in commemorat-
ing the liberation of the camps.
The program is sponsored by
Shaarit Haplaytah of Detroit
("the Remnant," the association
of Holocaust survivors) and the
Holocaust Memorial Center in co-
operation with the Jewish Com-
munity Center, the Jewish
Community Council, CHAIM
(Children of Holocaust Survivors
Association in Michigan), the
Greater Detroit Interfaith Round
Table of the National Conference
of Christians and Jews, and the
Ecumenical Division of the Arch-
diocese of Detroit.
The ceremony will feature a
presentation of colors by the Jew-
ish War Veterans of the United
States of America, Department
of Michigan, under Commander
Milton Klein. After the singing of
anthems and welcoming ad-
dresses given by Harry Praw,
president of Shaarit Haplaytah,
and Abraham Weberman, past
president of Shaarit Haplaytah,
a candlelighting will be held in
memory of the 6 million Jews and
the victims of terrorist attacks in
Israel. The candles will be lit by
Holocaust survivors and children
of Holocaust survivors.
Speakers will include Colonel
Ronald W. Rubin, vice comman-
der, 127 Fighter Wing, Selfridge
Air National Guard Base; Saul
Waldman, president of the Holo-
caust Memorial Center; Gustav
Berenholz, chairman of the HMC
Executive Committee; Dr.
Charles Silow, president of
CHAIM; Douglas Bloom, presi-
dent of the Jewish Community
Center, Allen Zemmol, president
of the Jewish Community Coun-
cil; Barbara Gray, director of the
Greater Detroit Interfaith Round
Table of the National Conference
of Christians and Jews; the Most
Rev. Moses B. Anderson, SSE,
Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdio-
cese of Detroit; and Rabbi Charles
H. Rosenzveig, founder of the
Holocaust Memorial Center.
The musical portions of the
program will be provided by Can-
tor Chaim Najman of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek. Rita
Huppert Frumin and Shari Fer-
ber Kaufman will perform the
recitations.
Following the Memorial Acad-
emy, more memorial prayers and
an individual yahrtzeit candle-
lighting ceremony will be held at
the Eternal Flame in the Holo-
caust Memorial Center.
Rabbi Discusses
Assisted Suicide
Rabbi Jack Riemer will present
a Jewish perspective on the re-
cent Jack Kevorkian trial and the
issue of assisted suicide at noon
Wednesday, April 17, at the Max
Fisher Building in Bloomfield
Hills.
Rabbi Riemer, of Congregation
Beth David of Miami, is an au-
thor and lecturer. The event is
sponsored by the Jewish Feder-
ation of Metropolitan Detroit
Community Outreach and In-
volvement Department.

learn program.

Two Programs
Machon L'Torah will hold a
lunchtime conference at Miller,
Canfield, Paddock, & Stone, 150
W. Jefferson, Detroit, on Tues-
day, April 16, at 12:15 p.m. The
program will include lunch fol-
lowed by a discussion led by Rab-
bi Abraham Jacobovitz, director
of the Jewish Learning Network
of Michigan, on "Jewish Ethics."
