(810) 745-8900. ❑ Sotheby's Holds Tel Aviv Auction A n oil painting by the cele- brated 18th-century French illustrator Bernard Picart is one of the focal points of a Sotheby's sale to be held April 12 in Tel Aviv. The painting, Curiel Family at Passover, depicts a family of Portuguese Jews cele- brating the Passover seder in their home in Amsterdam. The Curiels had been Marra- nos in Portugal and maintained certain customs adopted during their years of practicing their faith in secret, despite their move to countries not burdened by the shadow of the Inquisition. It is thought that the omission of chil- dren, normally a part of the Passover seder ceremony, reflects this continued practice of the Curiel family. The painting incorporates a
