"Crimes Against Humanity," the
official state of Michigan Holo-
caust Commemoration, will hon-
or the survivors of the Holocaust
on April 16, at the state Capitol
Building in Lansing.
The public is invited to the 1-
2 p.m. program, which will fea-
ture Gov. John Engler and
Attorney General Frank Kelley.
The event will be hosted by
state Rep. Liz Brater of Ann Ar-
bor, and is co-sponsored by the
office of Gov. John Engler and
the Michigan Jewish Conference.
Survivors from around the state
will participate in the candle-
lighting ceremony.

An evening of wine and hors
d'oeuvres is planned for the sec-
ond annual wine-tasting event
sponsored by the Jewish Feder-
ation's Young Adult Division 7
p.m. Thursday, April 25, in
Bloomfield Hills
Rabbi Joshua Bennett will
discuss the significance of kosher
wine, and a representative from
the Merchant of Vino will pro-
vide instruction about choosing
a wine that will complement a
meal.

Professor Speaks
At Maple-Drake

The Cohn-Haddow Center for
Judaic Studies at Wayne State
University will sponsor a lecture
by Dr. Lawrence Langer, pro-
fessor emeritus at Simmons Col-
lege, on Wednesday, April 17, at
7:30 p.m. at the Janice Charach
Epstein Museum/Gallery at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Communi-
ty Center. His topic will be
"Women and Holocaust Testi-
monies."
Dr. Langer is the recipient of
the National Endowment for the
Humanities Senior Fellowship
for College Teachers and Inde-
pendent Scholars and the Na-
tional Book Critics Circle Award.
He is the authorof more than 50
articles and books about the
Holocaust.
The lecture is co-sponsored by
the Holocaust Memorial Center.
Admission is free and open to the
public.
