Nominees
Are Sought

The Jewish Federation of Washt-
enaw County/UJA is seeking
nominations for its annual
Young Leadership Award, rec-
ognizing the accomplishments of
one or two young leaders and en-
couraging their continued com-
mitment and involvement on a
local and/or national level. Nom-
inations are due by April. 15 and
the awards will be announced at
the Federation annual meeting
on Wednesday, May 15.
The criteria for selection are:
the person must be a young
adult, of either sex, preferably,
but not limited to ages 30-45.
This person must have served in
a leadership capacity for the Fed-
eration or a constituent agency
(for example, the Jewish Com-
munity Center, the Hebrew Day
School, or Jewish Family Ser-
vices) on one or more boards
and/or committees. The young
leader so honored must have
served as a role model and in-
spiration for others. The person
must have been involved in the
campaign in making his own sig-
nificant gift (a gift on a level ap-
propriate to their means) and in
solicitation. The honoree must
have demonstrated a commit-
ment to the goals of Federa-
tion/JUA: the needs of the
Jewish people locally, national-
ly, internationally and in Israel.
The person must have a poten-
tial for future continued in-
volvement and leadership.
The nomination procedure is:
Any member of the Jewish com-
munity (as defined in the by-
laws, i.e., a contributor to the
Federation campaign) may make
a nomination. However, a spe-
cial request is made to board
members of Federation and oth-
er boards and community lead-
ers to submit names for
consideration.
Nominations are due by April
15 and should be submitted in
writing to the Federation office,

Songs, Stories
Are Featured

Storyteller Laura Pershin and
guitarist/singer Rosalie Koenig
will present Pujopet Stories, Par-
ty Songs and Pledges, an hour of
stories from around the world at
a Capital Building Campaign
"parlor meeting" for the Jewish
Community Center of Washte-
naw County, to be held Sunday,
April 14, at 2 p.m., in the JCC
lounge.
Ms. Pershin, an Ann Arbor li-
brarian, and Ms. Koenig, a music
teacher at Mitchell Elementary
School, will present songs and
folktales in a tandem style.

Scholar Talks
On Identity

Israeli scholar and psychothera-
pist Yolanda Gampel will pre-
sent a lecture titled "Reflections
on Jewish Identity After the
Holocaust" on Tuesday, April 9,
at the Jewish Community Cen-
ter of Washtenaw County. The
lecture will begin at 7 p.m.
A faculty member of Tel Aviv
University, Dr. Gampel has writ-
ten and lectured extensively on
the impact of war and violence
on the individual and their fam-
ily.
This event is sponsored by the
Jewish Community Center of
Washtenaw County, Jewish
Family Services of Washtenaw
County, and the Michigan Psy-
choanalytic Foundation. There
will be no admission charge.

Recital Set
As Benefit

Cellist Vladimir Babin and pi-
anist Maria Kardas Barna will
present a "Duo Recital" to ben-
efit Russian Jewish resettlement
at 4 p.m., on Sunday, April 21,
in the Beth Israel Congregation
Social Hall in Ann Arbor. Ad-
mission is $12 for adults and $8
for seniors and students.

Workmen's Circle
Third Seder

Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring
will hold its annual third seder
on Sunday, April 7, at noon, at
26341 Coolidge, Oak Park.
The celebration will include
group participation in the read-
ing of a special secular Haggadah
and a Pesach lunch. Taking part
will be children from the WC/AR
Sunday School and an adult cho-
rus.

Class, Club
At The JPM

Adult art classes are held every
Monday, Wednesday and Friday
from 9 a.m. - noon at the JPM
JCC by Harriet Gelfond. This is
an ongoing beginning class us-
ing various media. There is a
charge which includes art sup-
plies.
The Yiddish Culture Club
meets on Friday, April 12, at
12:30 p.m. this month only. The
regular meeting time is the sec-
ond Thursday of the month at
12:30 p.m. There is no charge.
