As the market became satu-
rated with competitors, Ms.
Kutinsky diversified, securing or-
ders from ad agencies, radio sta-
tions, universities and other
organizations.
But bar and bat mitzvahs are
/=2 ' still TLC's - bread and butter. Ms.

Kutinsky says she does three per
week on average. She also offers
on-site airbrushing on fabric at
parties.
"Every year, families continue
to come back. The idea is to hold
onto your niche and go on to de-
velop other niches," she says.
By 1994, her less than 1,000-
square-foot basement could no
longer hold the equipment or pro-
vide the space she needed to fill
orders. TLC had also become less
of a T-shirt business and more of
a graphic design and print pro-
duction shop.
After developing a logo and
/- completing the printing for the
clothing, signs and related sou-
venirs for the 1994 L'eggs Figure
Skating Championships, Ms.
Kutinsky made the big jump out
of her basement into a building
twice the size in Farmington
Hills.
"The company kept growing
steadily every year and allowed
me not to lose control of the busi-
ness. It also allowed me to service
my clients with the tender, lov-
ing care they have come to expect
from TLC," Ms. Kutinsky says.
She also manages to ride Guy
Lombardo, her best horse so far,
four times a week.
Today, her company has five
full-time employees and three
sales representatives. Revenues
hit the $300,000 mark last year.
Her real personal victory, how-
ever, was in meeting a personal
challenge.
"In life, you either grow or be-
come stagnant. I like a challenge
and have been lucky to be able to
combine my interests, creativi-
ty and problem-solving skills in
my business," she says. ❑
