Born in Russia, Mr. Young came to the United States at age 18. He graduated from Central High School and attended what is now Wayne State University. Mr. Young was the owner and founder of Hot Sam's Pret- zel Stands that started in the Livonia Mall and grew to over 100 stands nationwide before he sold to General Host in 1972. Thirty years ago, Mr. Young invented and sold his rights to Jiffy Pop Popcorn. He opened Iagni- atinski Antiques in Birmingham and ran it for several years before retiring in 1985. For forty years, Mr. Young was a master bridge player. He also had an extensive pipe and pipe acces- sory collection as well as a collection of cigar cutters. Mr. Freed earned his living as a religious school teacher until he landed his first retail job as a salesman at a Drouillard Road clothing and shoe store called Harry's Place. Three years later, Mr. Freed bought the store's Ottawa Street branch and renamed it Sam's. He was the founder of Freed's Department Store in Windsor. Mr. Freed was a member of Congregation Beth El, B'nai B'rith, YMCA and the Windsor and District Chamber of Com- merce. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane.
