The AIPAC Web site is as no-
nonsense as the group itself.
Don't come here for cutting edge
graphics; designers of the AIPAC
site deliberately kept things sim-
ple to speed up the transfer of in-
formation.
All of this is very nice, but it's
hardly spectacular to blase cy-
bernauts accustomed to techno-
glitz.
What is a bit more spectacular
is the fact that AIPAC will use
the World Wide Web and its ex-
traordinary multimedia capabil-
ities to make its annual policy
conference accessible to a world-
wide audience, not just to the
several thousand who come to
Washington for the event.
With the assistance of
VDOnet, an Israeli high-tech
company, and Traveller Infor-
mation Services, a leading Inter-
net provider, AIPAC will offer
real-time video coverage of ple-
nary sessions.
Plans are still in the formative
stages, but one thing is definite:
by tuning into the AIPAC web

Recently the AIPAC
home page featured
an "action needed"
alert to members.

site between April 28 and 30,
users will be able to see some of
the sessions without leaving their
homes.
The real-time video will be
available only to users using fast
28.8k-baud modems — the cur-
rent choice for serious computer
users. Net cruisers with slower
modems, however, will have ac-
cess to real-time audio broadcasts
of the conference, which will fea-
ture Jordan's King Hussein and
Israeli Prime Minister Shimon
Peres, along with other political
and diplomatic heavyweights.
To date, AIPAC reports more
than 31,000 "hits" at the Web site
— visits to their little corner of
cyberspace. ❑
