Jewish
Hosts Two Speakers
Radio
Program
Airs
A new Jewish radio pro-
gram will broadcast on
Sundays from noon to 1
p.m. beginning March 31.
The program, called "The
Jewish Hour," will be host-
ed by Rabbi Herschel Fin-
man and will be broadcast
live over WPON, 1460 AM.
The program will feature
Herschei Finman
a variety format. Features
will include Jewish music, news from Israel, guests and call-
ins, happenings in the Jewish calendar, and a Chasidishe
story.
The show's first guest will be Specs Howard, who will share
his experiences growing up Jewish in rural Pennsylvania.
New WSU Internship

Conflict Studies at Wayne
State University will host
a gala evening honoring
Lillian Mellen Genser on
Sunday, May 5 at 7:30 p.m.
at the Birmingham Tem-
ple.
The program will fea-
ture entertainment by Phil
Esser, skits written by
Rudy Simons and Mort
Zieve and testimonials
Lillian Genser
from some of Ms. Censer's
friends. The event also will
be the occasion to announce the creation of the Lillian Mellen
Genser Endowed Peace and Human Rights Internship at
Wayne State University.
The Internship will honor Ms. Genser, who preserved the
Center and its Detroit Council for World Affairs through the
last 30 years. It is being established through the contribu-
tions and support of friends and associates and will be aug-
mented and preserved by the College of Urban, Labor and
Metropolitan Affairs at Wayne State.
Lillian Genser became affiliated with the Center as a vol-
unteer when it first opened in 1965 and, later, proceeded to
become its director. She pioneered the study of human rights
issues and their interconnected implications as related to
global education. Her contribution was to link these themes
of conflict resolution curricula for schools and communities.
Her work and influence have had an impact both here, at
home in her native Detroit, and internationally. She is rec-
ognized and respected as a tireless campaigner for the recog-
nition of these rights, particularly as they pertain to children.
Tickets are $35 per person. Donations of $250 at the spon-
sor level or $500 at the patron level are welcome.

Brandeis University National Women's Com-
mittee, Greater Detroit Chapter "University
On Wheels" will present two speakers on
Wednesday, April 17, at the Bloomfield Li-
brary, 1099 Lone Pine Road, Bloomfield Hills
from 10 to 2:30 p.m. Brunch buffet will be
served.
Dr. James Mandrell, associate professor of
Spanish and comparative literature at Bran-
deis University, will speak on the "50s Flip-
side: American Popular Culture in the
Academy."
Dr. Mandrell teaches a wide range of cours-
es in the Department of Romance and Com-
parative Literature, in European Cultural
Studies and Latin American Studies.

Cooper, of the Speakers Bureau, Detroit In-
stitute of Arts, will give a slide presentation
about "Magic and Superstition In Judaism."
Ms. Cooper is a professional commercial
artist, receiving her associate degree in fine
arts from Oakland Community College. She
has taught courses in Jewish art at Oakland
Community College, Southfield Communi-
ty Education Center, and the Midrasha, the
College of Jewish Studies.
The charge for the day, including the

A cooking demonstration by Master
Chef Milos Chielka of the Golden Mush-
room will be among the treats available
toparticipants at the Temple Beth El
Sisterhood's April 22 "A Day of Indul-
gence."
Chef Milos has been at the Golden
Mushroom since 1976. Apast director
of the American Culinary Federation
and member of the American Academy
of Chefs, he is founder and past presi-
dent of Michigan Chefs de Cuisine as
well as a founder of the Cooks Appren-
ticeship Program of Greater Detroit.
Chef Milos' 1 p.m. cooking demon-
stration is one part of the day-long event
at Temple Beth El. The day will begin
at 10 a.m. with boutiques offering on-
the-spot makeovers and massages and
other gifts and services. There will be a

gourmet lunch at noon and the oppor-
tunity, with reservation, to pre-order a gourmet dinner to go.
Charge for the event, proceeds of which will underwrite temple youth
activities, is $30 per person. Reservations must be made prior to April
