Vineyard's Cafe & Catering,

Hills, 855-9463. The all-new Vineyards
is something b see, with both booths and
tables for people to sit with salads galore,
both regular and low fat, plus over 50
sandwiches. Aso, from Shirlee Bloom's
separate kitchen comes her excellent
preparation of traditional Jewish dishes,
using only kosher products. Shirlee's foods
are available for dining in or carry-out.
She is also available for weddings, bar-
bat mitzvahs, showers, etc.

FERNDALE

French Gourmet, 23421 Wood-
ward, Ferndale, 810-541-1200. At one
time a great place to go for French pas-
tries and desserts, this has become a full-
fledged restaurant with under 30 seats. It
serves gourmet-style food at resonable
prices. Owners Marvin Bernstein and
wife/executive chef Lino Bernstein, also
roast their own coffees and have added
new features from 40 French syrups to an
extensive line of teas, Parisian vinegars,
oils, honeys, preserves and mustards. AI-
though a complete restaurant now, French
Gourmet is still a classic authentic French
pastry shop and bakery, with excellent
special occasion and wedding cakes.
If going for dinner, take a tip and make
a res e rvation. Remember, seating capacity
is small.

Novi Road, Novi, 380-0011. Having
one of the newest Italian restaurants in
the Northwest Metropolitan area, Jim
and Chris Stevens, husband and wife
owners of Cicero's, know they are buck-
ing a lot of competition. But the sight of
customers coming back is a great sign.
It is open Mon.-Thurs. 11 to 10; Fri. &
Sat. 11 to midnight and Sun. 4 to 9,
serving Northern and Southern Italian
cuisine, fine wines, homemade desserts
and fresh fish like whitefish, lake perch
and plank salmon.

CIOOM'S

LaFendi, 27060 Evergreen, Lathrup
Landing, Lathrup, 559-9099. An elegant
atmosphere, where all areas are a dif-
ferent decor make up this popular Mid-
dle Eastern resluaurant. many of the dishes
are not found in too many dining spots of
its ype. Fresh squeezed fruits and veg-
etables make up the raw juice bar which
people enjoy seven days a week at all
hours.

LIVONIA

D. Dennison's Seafood Tavern
of Livonia, 37716 W. 6 Mile, Laurel
Park Place, Livonia, 464-9030. D. Den-
nison's has an established reputation for
moderately-priced seafood from Florida,
Boston and the Great Lakes. The atmos-
phere is lively and informal with a fresh
raw bar and early dining specials. Also
featured are pasta, chicken dishes, sal-
ads and sandwiches, plus a children's
menu.

NOW

Ah Wok, 41563 W. 10 Mile Rd.,
Novi Plaza, Novi, 349-9260. Rated
among the top gourmet Chinese restau-
rants in this area, Ah Wok is also still a
big favorite on standard traditional din-
ing. For years, adventurous customers
have enjoyed the elaborate offerings with
heir imaginative style of preporalion which
have proven delightful palate-pleasers.

OAK PARK

Bread Basket Deli, 10Z. Mile and
Greenfield, lincoln Shopping Center, Oak
Park, 9680022. A favorite of many peo-
ple for breakfast, lunch, dinner and af-
ter-iheater, this has tFe aura of a modernistic
delicatessen so apparent with colorful
decor. A children's menu is featured along
with party trays. The Bread Basket Deli is
open Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m.
to 10 p.m.

Golden Bowl, 22106 Coolidge at
9 Mile, Oak Park, 398-5502. The knowt-
edge of Chef Frank Eng is widespread
in Chinese dining. Golden Bowl is open
seven days, Mon.-Thurs. from 11 a.m.
and Sunday from 1 p.m. serving
Szechuan, Mandarin and Cantonese
food. Carry-out service is available plus
banquet facilities.

ORCHARD LAKE

Jake's On The Lake, 4105 Orchard
Lake Rd., Orchard Lake. 851-8888. He's
the imaginative world traveler figure who
has owners Jim Kokus and Ed Manzaria,
also bossmen at Opus One, operating
his new restaurant on the former Pontiac
Trail site of Buster's Bay. Dinners only are
s erved six days, Tuesday-Thursday, 5 p.m.
to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 5 p.m.
to 11 p.m.; Sunday 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Reservations are accepted for any
evening.

PONTIAC



Pike Sheet, 18 West Pike Street, Pon-
tiac, 334-7878. This fine dining stand-
by is noted for its excellent cuisine and
service. It features the imaginative pre-
sentations of Executive Chef Darin Moore,
a member of the U.S. Culinary Olympic
team that will comp e te in 1996 in Berlin.
Its wine list and gourmet-siyied menu items
present a wide selection from which to
choose. Banquet facilities are available
for all events.

ROYAL OAK

Chick-N-Ribs, 118 S. Woodward,
Royal Oak, 544-1211. Much has been
said about this dine in and carry-out
restaurant whose specialties of broasted
or bar-b-q chicken and bar-b-q ribs have
received much attention, but as regular
customers say, the proof is in the tasting.
It's open seven days, Sun.-Thurs. 11-10,
Fri. & Sat. 11-11.

SOUTHFIELD

Alia's, 27167 Greenfield, Southfield,
559-8222. A good family restaurant serv-
ing American and Lebanese cuisine, Alia's
owners Dania and Ed Farah are proud
of their homemade specialties prepared
from natural ingredients. It is open 7 days
a week serving breakfast, lunch and din-
ner. Carryout of its entire menu is avail-
able as is off-premise catering.

Excalibur, 28875 Franklin Rd., South-
field, 358-3355. When former owner
Pat Archer passed on, people said Ex-
calibur would also go. However, they
didn't reckon with Mary Wilk, own-
