Imports Workers
Jerusalem (JPFS) — The man-
ufacturing sector called on the
Israeli government to import an-
other 5,000 foreign workers.
In the meantime, the govern-
ment decided to permit 3,500 for-
eign workers to work in the
agriculture sector and another
13,000 in the construction sector.
Manufacturers Association
President Dan Propper said
there is a shortage of 3,500 work-
ers in the manufacturing sector,
in addition to 1,700 Arab work-
ers who temporarily cannot en-
ter the country because of the
border closure.
Since the Gulf War, the man-
ufacturing sector has reduced its
dependence on Palestinian
workers by 1,700 from 22,500,
Mr. Propper said.
Chyron To Buy
Into RT Set
Jerusalem (JPFS) — U.S.-based
video graphic display leader Chy-
ron Corporation will purchase 19
percent of RT-Set, a subsidiary of
Israel's BVR Technologies, in re-
turn for 3 percent of Chyron com-
mon stock. Chyron will also have
call option rights to increase its
holdings in RT-Set to 51 percent.
The value of the exchange is an
estimated $7.5 million.
A new class of convertible pre-
ferred share was created for the
deal. Should the enterprise fail,
Chyron may buy back 40 percent
of its stock from RT-Set. Should
RT-Set go public, the shares will
be converted to common stock.
Chyron will assist in market-
ing, sales and distribution of RT-
Set's virtual studio systems and
proprietary hardware. The Israeli
company specializes in computer
generated TV-show sets, in which
actors appear to move freely in
front of and between objects.
RT-Set chairman Aviv Tzidon
said Chyron was the "optimal
choice for a strategic partnership."
He added the agreement was very
important with the approach of
the annual National Broadcast-
ers Association convention in
April, in Las Vegas. "It places RT-
Set together with Chyron at the
forefront of virtual studio tech-
nology and service."
