Better World
Is Event Goal

The Workmen's Circle / Arbeiter
Ring and its Teen Group will hold
"A Shenere un Besere Velt Event
— Generations Together for a
More Beautiful and Better
World."
Based on the Jewish concept
of Tikkun Olam, on repair of the
world, the program will include
artistic, social action, cultural and
ecological projects designed to
help make the world a better
place. Refreshments will be
served.
It will be Sunday, March 24,
from 2:30-4:30 p.m., at the Work-
men's Circle Educational Center,
26341 Coolidge, Oak Park; (810)
545-0985. Admission is $2 each
for non-members and their chil-
dren, and $1 each for members
and their children, plus one item
of non-perishable kosher food for
Yad Ezra.

Temple Israel
Hosts Concert

"Memories of Littman's People's
Theater", a program dedicated to E\
the music of the Yiddish Theater,
will feature Cantors Robert Abel-
son, Martha Novick and Harold
Orbach in a concert at Temple
Israel on Sunday, March 31, at
3:30 p.m. Understanding Yiddish
is not required for this Harry
Laker Memorial Concert, co-
sponsored by the Temple Broth-
erhood.
Robert Abelson, cantor of Tem-
ple Israel in New York City and
on the board of the American
Society for Jewish Music, has
served the Jewish community for
40 years. He specializes in Yid-
dish art song and performs works _
of neglected Jewish composers. -\
Martha Novick received a
bachelor of sacred music from
Hebrew Union College's School
of Sacred Music, where she was
invested as cantor and a bache-
lor of science in music per-
formance and a master of arts
in music education from New
York University. She is cantor (-\
at Temple Emanu-El in Westfield
NJ. Harold Orbach has served
Temple Israel in West Bloomfield
as cantor for over three dec-
ades.
Mack Pitt is well-known to De-
troit audiences as a band leader
for special programs, including
the Balfour Concert. He has per-
formed with the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra, playing first
saxophone and mandolin.
Also featured will be Zina
Shaykhet, accompanying on the
piano, and the Temple Israel
Junior Choir, conducted by
Elaine Greenberg. Complimen- E\
