dreds of pristine, tranquil spots to
choose from. The nice thing about
Israel is that you can combine
leisure, history and nature, often
in a single afternoon.
You can even combine your
wedding and honeymoon into one
trip. Sabra offers a wedding pack-
age, complete with an ancient Is-
raeli ceremony featuring footmen
dressed in ancient robes who car-
ry the couple on their shoulders
from the Jaffa Gate to the West-
ern Wall. The wedding package

costs about $2,000, including a
reception for 30 people. Air fare
to Israel is additional. The couple
then honeymoons for four days,
three nights in Eilat and Tiberias
for $299 per person.
Unlike honeymoon havens
such as the Caribbean or Hawaii,
Israel does not have a full-fledged
honeymoon industry. Israeli ho-
tels don't have designated "hon-
eymoon suites," for example.
Nevertheless, newlyweds are gen-
uinely treated like VIPs and receive
special services. "Some hotels have
so-called honeymoon packages,"
says Mr. Neger. "Your agent can
arrange for special things like flow-
ers, fruit baskets, chocolates in the
room. You may also get a more pri-
vate table at dinner."
The Isrotel chain, with several
hotels in Eilat, goes one step fur-
ther, offering a dinner on the
house, free T-shirts and other small
gifts. Regardless of which hotel
you choose, you're bound to be
regarded with affection. Israelis
love weddings and newlyweds,
so bring a wedding photo to pass
around, just in case someone asks
to see one.

ding in Israel into a three-week
second honeymoon. They
mapped out their trip in advance
