The signing in Tel Aviv was at-
tended by Chamber president
Dan Gillerman and EBA presi-
dent Said El Tawil, who repre-
sents his country's largest
commercial organization.
The two groups will work to-
ward encouraging business ac-
tivity between the two countries
including transfer of information,
joint ventures and hosting of del-
egations.
Mr. El Tawil was accompanied
by a 30-member delegation rep-
resenting businesses that have
expressed interest in working
with Israeli companies in the ar-
eas of furniture, kitchen fixtures,
computers, institutional securi-
ty systems, milk products, home
electronics, agriculture, water pu-
rification, oil and gas.
The Israel Chamber of Com-
merce said it arranged for some
150 meetings between delegation
members and interested parties.
Israelis Issue
`Electric Money'
Jerusalem (JPFS) — Israel Cred-
it Cards (ICC) plans to issue Visa
Cash credit cards in the fourth
quarter of the year as the first
stage in the company's plans to
introduce electronic money, ICC
general manager Zvi Meshi an-
nounced.
Mr. Meshi said cardholders will
be able to carry up to $100 on one
card, which will look like a credit
card but will work like cash. The
cards, which will be accepted at
grocery stores and newsstands,
will be "refillable" at banks' auto-
matic teller machines.
The card will first be tested in
limited areas, but Mr. Meshi said
he hopes to distribute the cards
throughout Israel by 1997.
According to a market survey
conducted for ICC in November
1995, 71 percent of the popula-
tion uses credit cards, 55 percent
Visa and Diner's cards and 45
percent Isracard and American
Express. Of the top two econom-
ic echelons, 85 percent have cred-
it cards, 65 percent Visa and
Diner's and 35 percent Isracard
and American Express.
Mr. Meshi forecasted 90 per-
cent of the population would have
a credit card by the year 2000 and
100 percent of the top economic
echelon.
The survey revealed credit
cards are equally used by men and
women. The average card user is
age 44. In terms of cardholder ex-
penditure, Israel is the sixth-
largest in the European Union.
