Rabbi Speaks
On AIDS

Rabbi Marc S. Blumenthal, chap-
laincy coordinator for the Board
of Rabbis of Southern California,
will speak to Temple Israel high
school students and parents on
Monday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m.
A speaker on HIV/AIDS, Rab-
bi Blumenthal contributes the
perspective on the issues as a
rabbi living with AIDS.
Rabbi Blumenthal has taught
at California State University at
Northridge and the University of
Judaism. He is vice-chair of AIDS
National Interfaith Network and
liaison to the Council of National
Religious AIDS Networks. He
was ordained at the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Institute
of Religion in New York, from
which he holds a master's degree
in Hebrew literature and earned
his undergraduate degree at
Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
This program, open to the
community, is sponsored by the
George and Anne Roth Youth
Education and Awareness Fund

Learner Service

Mat Shalom Synagogue's month-
ly learners' service, led by Rabbi
Daniel Nevins, will take place
from 10:45 a.m. to noon on Shab-
bat morning, March 16. During
this service, participants learn
about the history, structure and
music of the Shabbat morning ser-
vice. It is geared toward those who
are unfamiliar with the Siddur.
Adults are encouraged to bring
their youngsters to the synagogue
that morning— children (2'4 and
older) are welcome to attend the
congregation's weekly children's
services, which begin at 10:30 am.
