Rabbi Lawrence J. Silberstein,
professor of Jewish studies at
Pennsylvania's Lehigh Univer-
sity, will relate his experiences
teaching "Modern Jewish
Thought" in Rome at Shabbat
services at Congregation Beth
Shalom, March 16.
At a luncheon following, he
will discuss "What's New in
Israel," based on his recent vis-
it.
Rabbi Silberstein, a native of
Brookline, Mass., earned his
undergraduate and doctoral
degrees from Brandeis and his
rabbinical ordination from the
Jewish Theological Seminary.
He serves as director of the
Berman Education Center.
The program is sponsored by
the Beth Shalom Cultural Com-

The Cultural Commission of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek will
sponsor pianist David Syme as
the featured artist at a concert
Tuesday evening, March 19, at
7:30 p.m. at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, in
celebration of Jewish Music
Month.
David Syme is well known to
Detroit audiences through his
solo appearances with the De-
troit Symphony. He is also
known for his classical concerts.
His repertoire ranges from de-
manding classics to current pop-
ular songs.
As a special feature in the con-
cert, Mr. Syme will play a seg-
ment dedicated to Jerusalem
3000. The concert is made possi-
ble through a grant by the
Samuel and Miriam Hamburg-
er Endowment in Sacred Music.
