Parcels, Costumes
ver 2,300 Purim parcels were
assembled and delivered by a
volunteer corps of 200 as part
of the Great Purim Parcel Pro-
jct on Sunday at the Agency for
Jewish Education. The event was a pro-
ject of Jewish Experiences for Families,
the Agency for Jewish Education and The
Jewish News.
The project was one of several Purim-
related events held throughout the De-
troit Jewish community. Another one, at
the ME a week prior, was the Yeshiva
Darchei Torah one-stop Purim shop.
Most recently, however, the ME park-
ing lot was crowded with cars as volun-
teers took Purim shalach manot to fellow
community members. According to pro-
ject coordinator Kari Grossman, many
of the packages went to newcomers to
Jewish Detroit, emigres, people who re-
ceive NCJW Meals on Wheels, nursing
home residents, Kadima residents, Yad
Ezra and even to the U.S. Jewish ser-
vicemen serving in Bosnia.
