Consider
This

ow do you feel about anti-Semitism in
literature?
Many authors of great books were no-
torious anti-Semites, and their works re-
flect those views.
When you come across anti-Semitism in a novel,
do you feel the book is worthless, or can you overlook
the hatred? What do you think of anti-Semites whom
critics nonetheless regard great authors? Would you
refuse to read a book if you knew in advance it was
filled with anti-Semitism?

IF

Food For Thought

ould anything be
nicer than a cup of
cider on a cold win-
ter day?
Maybe not. But don't in-
vite staff from The Jewish
News if it's Alpine Spiced
Cider you're having.

RATING FOR
ALPINE SPICED CIDER
Forks Down

"From the smell, you
would expect it to taste good.
Actually, it's kind of weak,
but more soothing than an
acidic cup of tea." — Staff
Writer Ruth Littmann

"Too sweet — Nu-
traSweet gone awry." —
Arts and Entertainment Ed-
itor Julie Yolles

"Spicy and sassy (I
thought I detected a hint of
lavender)! But with a slight
aftertaste of artificial sweet-
ener." — Staff Writer and
bon vivant David Zeman

"The aroma
is very nice
and promises
you a lot more
than the taste
delivers. It's a
lot like very
weak, warm
apple juice."

Going To The
Zoo, Zoo, Zoo
How About
You, You, You?

I

t's still a little cool to bring out
the pool. Meanwhile, though,
why not enjoy someone else's
swimming?
The Detroit Zoo
recently opened a Wildlife
Interpretive Gallery, fea-
turing a 2,000-gallon coral
reef aquarium with spot-
ted chocolate-chip starfish
and blue-ring angelfish, to
name just two. The tank
has a slanted surface, giv-
ing the illusion of a 3-D
movie screen. Visitors also
will be able to use an un-
derwater camera that pro-
vides a close-up of all your

favorite fish and sea life. Glub,
glub, glub.
Also for your viewing pleasure
at the new gallery:

*A tropical butterfly and hum-
mingbird garden, where you will
see hundreds of beautiful crea-
tures dancing through the air.
*Interactive programs to
help you learn all about ani-
mals.
*A wildlife theater show-
ing seven new, short films
made just for the Detroit Zoo
exhibit.
*An art gallery.
The new gallery is housed
in the former birdhouse, a
glass-domed structure built
in 1928 and the oldest build-
ing at the zoo.

he Your
Mems'

outhfield resident Shelley
Littman, a member of Con-
gregation Beth Shalom, has
written a Purim rap that's
certain to get your feet tapping!
It's called "The Four Mems"
and it goes like this:
Mishteh is the feast we eat to
celebrate
Queen Esther's victory over
Haman's hate
Megillat Esther is the story not
to miss
And when you hear Haman's
name yell and "boo" and "hiss"
Misholach Manot are special
baskets for your friends
Filled with tasty goodies so the
party never ends
And last but not least, we can't
forget the poor
Matanot L'evoyim is the last of
the four
Gather up your nickels, quar-
ters and more
Because Mordechai said,
"Leave tzedakah at their door."
Now that you know the four
mitzvot of Adar
Do them, enjoy them and you'll
be a Purim star!
