Ecumenical Institute
Names Two Honorees

The Ecumenical Institute for Jew-
ish-Christian Studies has named
the Most Reverend Alex J.
Brunett and Mr. Richard H.
Lobenthal the 1996 recipients of
the Dove Award.
This award is presented annu-
ally to individuals who have
worked to foster understanding
and acceptance amonepeople of
all faiths. As founding trustees of
the Ecumenical Institute, both
honorees were instrumental in its

establishment, actively guiding
its work in the formative years
and committing themselves to the
ideals of interfaith work.
Born and educated in Detroit,
Bishop Brunett served as- pastor
at St. Aidan Parish in Livonia and
Shrine of the Little Flower in Roy-
al Oak. In 1994 he was appoint-
ed Bishop of Helena,Mont. Bishop
Brunett was director of the Divi-

Detroit, as well as president of the
National Association of Diocesan
Ecumenical Officers.
Richard Lobenthal is the Michi-
gan director of the Anti-Defama-
tion League. He has served on the
faculties of Wayne State Univer-
sity, the University of Michigan
and the University of Detroit. A
founding board member of the
Michigan Coalition for Human
Rights, Mr. Lobenthal has also
been a member of numerous
boards and consultant to police
departments, schools and gov-
ernment agencies.
On Tuesday evening, April 23,
the community will recognize the
contributions of Bishop Brunett
and Mr. Lobenthal at the third
Dove Award Dinner at the Fair-
lane Club in Dearborn. For dinner

Great Lakes AZA,
BBG Host Presidents

The Great Lakes AZA and BBG
Councils of Michigan Region will
host the International Presidents
of AZA and BBG at their Coun-
cil meetings, which will be held
on Tuesday, March 5, at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Commu-
nity Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
Corey Stern, 18, the Grand
Aleph Godol of AZA, is from Mt.
Sinai, New York. Mr. Stern is
spending the year travelling
around the world, acting as a
trouble shooter for AZA, helping
chapters plan programs and
solve problems.

ternational N'siah of BBG, grew
up in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ms.
Podolsky will serve as president
of the B'nai B'rith Girls.
After the Council meetings, a
reception will be held at the JCC.

Rev. Lyons Speaks
At Temple Beth El

The Reverend James R. Lyons,
executive director of the Ecu-
menical Institute for Jewish-
Christian Studies, will be the
guest speaker as the Brother-
hood of Temple Beth El marks
Brotherhood Shabbat, Friday
evening, March 8, at 8 p.m.
The Rev. Lyons serves on the
executive committees of the Na-
tional Christian Leadership
Conference for Israel and
Bridges for Peace, on the Schol-
ars Committee for the Holo-
caust Memorial Center; the
Human Investigation Commit-
tee, William Beaumont Hospi-
tal; and the advisory board of
the International Center for James Lyons
Holocaust Studies of the Anti-
Defamation League.

Rabbi Diamond
Talks Talmud

Rabbi Eliezer Diamond, assis-
tant professor of rabbinics at the
Jewish Theological Seminary,
will teach three special sessions
"Reading the Talmud: Re-
claiming the Wisdom of our
Foreparents." The sessions will
be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday .

gation Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses; Thursday morning fol-
lowing Adat Shalom's 7:30 a.m.
shacharit service; and Thurs-
day 12:30 p.m. at the Max M.

Dr. Diamond was ordained
at Yeshiva University and re-
ceived his doctorate from the
Jewish Theological Seminary,
