special Oscar may be in your
future.
Star Theatres and Media Play
are co-sponsoring the 1996 Am-
ateur Filmmakers Contest for
metro Detroiters, with a $1,000
scholarship as the grand prize.
"With this contest, we want to
encourage and promote metro De-
troit's amateur filmmakers and

give them a chance to see their
productions on the big screen,"
said Pam Witterbach of Star The-
atres.
Filmmakers may enter their
work in one of five categories: fic-
tion (includes dramatic and per-
formance material), nonfiction
(includes informational and doc-
umentary), experimental, music
video and a category for film-
makers under 18 years old. The
film must be an amateur work
and no longer than 20 minutes.
On Wednesday, March 20, a
celebrity judging panel will review
the finalists and select the win-
ners at the Star Mock-Oscar Par-
ty at the Star John R Theatre in
Madison Heights. Winning en-
tries in each category will receive
a one-year VIP pass for two ad-
missions to any Star Theatre. The
grand-prize winner will receive a
$1,000 scholarship.
Contest materials and guide-
lines are available at any local
Star John R Theatre or Media
Play location. Entry tapes and
completed forms must be received
