The Jewish Parents Institute will
present a family Gala Purim Cel-
ebration on Sunday, March 3, at
10:30 a.m. at Maple-Drake. The
celebration will consist of Purim-
spiels and other entertainment
followed by a carnival.

Debbie Friedman will perform her
Jewish holiday music for families
2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Tem-
ple Emanu-El.
Ms. Friedman is a singer and
songwriter who recently played at
Carnegie Hall. She is a pioneer in
con-temporary American Jewish
music.
Sponsors of the concert are the
Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit Community Outreach
and Involvement Department and
its Neighborhood Project with the
Greater Detroit Chapter of Hadas-
sah, Boaz Siegal Cultural Fund of
the Jewish Community Center,
Jewish Experiences for Families,
The Jewish News, Sinai Hospital
and the Sinai Family Medical
Center and Temple Emanu-El.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3

In Concert

The Beth Achim Players will pre-
sent The Dickens with Haman, a
musical Purim twist set to the mu-
sic Oliver, on Sunday, March 3,
at 6:30 p.m. at the synagogue.
Following the performance
there will be a chicken dinner.
There is a charge for the dinner
and reservations are required by
Feb. 28. For information and

The Ecumenical Institute for Jew-
ish-Christian Studies will present
a three-week course, "Trial ofJe-
sus."
On Monday evenings, Feb. 26,
March 4, and March 11, from 7-9
p.m., the class will be offered at
St. Paul Catholic Church in
Grosse Pointe Farms. The same
class will also be held at Prince of
Peace Catholic Church (4300
Walnut Lake Road, West Bloom-
field) on Tuesday evenings, Feb.
27, March 5 and March 12, from
7:30-9 p.m.
Taught by the Rev. James R.
Lyons, executive director of the
Ecumenical Institute, the class
will present the background to
and study of Jesus' trial before
Pontius Pilate as well as a com-
prehensive study of the Gospel ac-
counts. The play, Pilate, written
by the Rev. Lyons, will be pre-
sented at the third session.

Congregation Bais Chabad will
host Purim festivities on Monday
night, March 4. The Megillah
reading will be at 7 p.m. followed
by a masquerade party for the
children. On Tuesday, March 5,
the Megillah will be read twice —
at 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. At 6
p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, there
will be a traditional Purim dinner.
Entertainment will be provided
by Vitaly and Boris, the Russian
duo, featuring traditional, Cha-
sidic, and Yiddish melodies. For

Anyone interested in purchas-
ing Shmura matzah can do so by
calling Rabbi Bergstein.

The Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit will of-
fer Purim Pandemonium at the
West Bloomfield building on Sun-
day, March 3, at 2 p.m. Vaudeville
with a Purpose!, featuring phys-
ical comic O.J. Anderson, will be
presented. Following the perfor-
mance, there will be Purim craft
projects.
Tickets are: JCC Members –
$4 per person; $20 maximum
family rate; non-members – $5
per person, $25.00 maximum
family rate. ( A family includes
two adults and children.)
