Akiva Senior Class
Visits Jewish London
For one year, the 12th-grade
class at Yeshiva Akiva has been
raising money to finance its se-
nior trip to London. It's held bake
sales, car washes, checked coats
at shul and sold ads in the year-
book.
The class includes Alissa
Zwick, Rechelle Winkler, Chaya
Leah Blumenfeld, Estee Eisen-
berg, Donna Flatt, Dov Gardin,
Ilana Gonik, Sara Leah Got-
tfried, Elana Nussbaum, Dena
Rothstein and Yoni Sherizen.
The teens completed their one-
week visit Feb. 2, with tour
guides and chaperones Robert
and Bonnie Torgow, grandpar-
ents of Dena Rothstein, and
teachers David and Julie Smith.
The entourage was housed at the
Croft Court, a small kosher ho-
tel in Golders Green, London. On
Shabbat morning, the group
prayed at "Sage," a Jewish old-
age home. The Torgows also
arranged for the Akiva teens to
meet with Orthodox London
teens.
The group visited Bucking-
ham Palace, the Museum of Lon-
don, Covent Garden and other
locations. The teens were given
a tour of the old Jewish East
End, tracing London's early Jew-
ish community, and the Bevis
Marks Synagogue, still in use.
The last evening, with a
farewell party at the hotel, the
Akiva group was treated to a
slide presentation by a friend of
the Torgows. It showed all the
sights the travelers had seen dur-
ing their one-week tour. ❑

The Boy Scouts of Troup 1579 at Congregation Beth Achim held a campout
recently. The boys got experience to earn their Polar Bear badges. The boys
who attended were Josh Cannon, Jonnie Feldman, Mo Feldman, Harrison
Magy, Joshua Kimmel and Ryan Reid.
