Purim Project
Helps Others

Israeli Leaders
Offer Debate

Families are invited to share in
the performing a Purim mitz-
vah by assembling and/or de-
livering kosher food parcels for
others in the Jewish communi-
ty during the "Great Purim Par-
cel Project," Feb. 25, 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. at the Agency for Jewish
Education building, 21550 W.
12 Mile Road, Southfield.
Families can also assemble
parcels at home and drop them
off at the AJE building or either
of the Jewish Community Cen-
ters in Oak Park and West
Bloomfield. Parcels will be de-
livered by community volunteers
from noon-2:30 p.m. to Shalom
Detroit newcomers, new Amer-
icans from the former Soviet
Union, Kadima, recipients of
Kosher Meals on Wheels, and
residents at the Jewish Home for
Aged and Group Apartments for
the Elderly. Maps will be pro-
vided.
Fresh and dried fruit, pack-
aged nuts, wrapped candy,
packages of cookies and crack-
ers may be included in the
kosher food package.
This annual event is a pro-
gram of the Agency for Jewish
Education's Jewish Experiences
for Families and The Jewish
News and is co-sponsored by
B'nai B'rith Leadership Net-
work, Charles Shapiro Post and
Ladies Auxiliary Jewish War
Veterans, Hillel of Metropolitan
Detroit, JARC (Jewish Associa-
tion of Residential Care), Nadiv,
a committee of the Michigan-Is-
rael Connection, National Fed-
eration of Temple Youth,
volunteer Network of the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit and Young Israel of
Greenfield.

The role the United States should
play in the peace process will be
debated by two Israeli leaders at
a free community-wide program
Monday, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. at Birm-
ingham Temple in Farmington
Hills.
The event is sponsored by the
Jewish Federation of Metropoli-
tan Detroit's Young Adult Divi-
sion and its Michigan/Israel
Connection, in cooperation with
the B'nai B'rith Leadership Net-
work.
Yechiel Leiter, executive di-
rector of the foreign desk of
YESHA, an organization repre-
senting the 149,000 Jewish resi-
dents who live in the West Bank,
will present his organization's
view that settlers have a right to
security and the land on which
they have built their homes.
Avshalom "Abu" Vilan, co-
founder of the Peace Now move-
ment, will give his organization's
view. He will support the idea of
giving land back in order to de-
velop a separate Arab governed
and Jewish Israeli governed ter-
ritory.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, Congre-
gation Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses Men's Club will hold its an-
nual Paid-Up Dinner and Gen-
eral Membership Meeting. The
evening will feature sports per-
sonality Jim Berk as the guest
speaker.
This event will take place from
6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the shul.
There is no cost to members of the
men's club; the cost to non-mem-
bers is $10.

Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Ruth Beitner and Roz Blanck
are co-chairmen of the Penny
Harvest portion of the Tzedakah
Experience.
The March 17 event at Temple
Beth El will have hands-on ac-
tivities for 5th graders and their
parents to learn about the im-
portance of helping others. Lo-
cal Jewish agencies will be there
to show how their services pro-
vide help to those in need.
