Most adults play on Saturday

the week are 7 to 10 p.m.

There are major
courts in 11 cities

If you plan to play, be sure to
call ahead to determine court
availability. Centers also have
specific rules for all players. The
rules are: no smoking on the
courts; no eating or drinking;
tennis shoes and whites are re-
quired dress. However, you can
wear pastel colors. Warm up
suits are permitted in the win-
ter months. Men must wear
shirts at all times; players only
on the courts — no spectators; no
excessive noise.
There is a special tennis pro-
gram for Israeli children that
dates back to 1974 from an idea
that occurred to Ian Froman,
a South African dentist and se-
rious tennis player who moved
to Israel in 1964.
Dr. Froman's idea blossomed
into the present day 11 tennis
centers. To date, over 200,000
boys and girls have taken ad-
vantage of the program. They
get tennis instruction and
equipment. The courts are
theirs exclusively from 2 to .7
p.m. every day. No Israeli gov-
ernment money goes to support
the program. All the money for
the tennis centers comes from
private funds from all over the
