Counterfeit Goods Flow Into Israel Jerusalem (JPFS) — An Indus- try and Trade Ministry subcom- mittee will meet to discuss ways to curb the production of coun- terfeit goods in the Palestinian autonomous regions and the smuggling of these goods into Is- rael, a ministry official said. At a recent meeting, Deputy Trade and Industry Minister Masha Lubelsky and Maj. Gen. Oren Shachor discussed the pro- duction of counterfeit goods in the territories. Mr. Lubelsky showed Maj. Gen. Shachor a variety of the most popular counterfeit goods that are produced behind the Green Line and sold in Israel. Among the goods discussed were Levi's jeans, compact discs and cassette tapes. Counterfeit CDs and tapes comprise 25 per- cent of all CDs and tapes sold in Israel. Following the Palestinian Au- thority's elections next month, the subcommittee will begin dis- - cussing how Palestinian facto- ries acquire information for the production of counterfeit goods and the way in which they smug- gle these goods into Israel.
