Young Adults
Sought To Lead
Young adults who are interest-
ed in taking an active role in
building a stronger Jewish com-
munity and developing their civic
leadership skills to strengthen
the metropolitan Detroit area are
encouraged to be a part of the
New Leaders Project of the Jew-
ish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit and the Jewish Commu-
nity Council.
The hands-on program aims
to have 15-20 Jewish young
adults learn about the social, po-
litical and cultural challenges the
Jewish community faces in the
21st Century. Throughout the
year, participants in the program
will also meet with various De-
troit civic leaders to discuss their
visions and hopes of the future.
Twice-a-month meetings will
be held to discuss issues of cul-
tural diversity, civic engagement,
problem-solving and leadership
style. At the conclusion of the pro-
ject, individuals will team up
with a community organization
to coordinate a project that ad-
dresSes the importance of
strengthening both the Jewish
community and the metropoli-
tan Detroit community as a
whole.
The New Leaders Project is
an adjunct program of the Na-
tional Jewish Community Rela-
tions Advisory Council, the Jew-
ish Federation and the Jewish
Community Council. The project
is funded by a generous grant
from the Nathan Cummings
Foundation with additional sup-
port from the Richard Dreyfuss
and the Payson Family Foun-
dation, with additional funds
provided by the Ben N. Teitel
Charitable Trust, Gerald S.
Cook, trustee.
