ber of new Americans arriving
from the former Soviet Union
has resulted in a shortage of fur-
niture available for them.
Because the furniture will be
used for a long time, make sure
it is in excellent condition and

Young Adults
Sought To Lead

Young adults who are interest-
ed in taking an active role in
building a stronger Jewish com-
munity and developing their
civic . leadership skills to
strengthen the metropolitan De-
troit area are encouraged to be
a part of the New Leaders Pro-
ject of the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit and the
Jewish Community Council.
The hands-on program aims
to have 15-20 Jewish young
adults learn about the social, po-
litical and cultural challenges
the Jewish community faces in
the 21st Century. Throughout
the year, participants in the pro-
gram will also meet with various
Detroit civic leaders to discuss
their visions and hopes of the fu-
ture.

Jewish Family and Children's
Services will offer new programs
and social events for singles and
couples to enjoy. The first is a
Chinese cooking demonstration
and dinner party on Saturday,
Jan. 27, 6:30 p.m. at Congrega-
tion Beth Israel.
Cooking will be done by Alfred
Chili, previous owner of Kenjos
in Flint. The food will be kosher
and the cost is $12.50 per per-
son.

al Jewish Community Relations
Advisory Council, the Jewish
Federation and the Jewish Com-
munity Council. The project is

the Nathan Cummings Foun-
dation with additional support
from the Richard Dreyfuss and
the Payson Family Foundation,
with additional funds provided
by the Ben N. Teitel Charitable
Trust, Gerald S. Cook, trustee.
