The Claymore Shop A Jewish life is to celebrate with others, grieve with others, in- teract with others. And a Jewish life is to be lived. In as many ways and in all ways possible. "Choose life," the Torah tells us. And so, while I admire what Anne Scheiber did in death, I am not sure if that lesson is worth her lesson of how not to live. While I admire what Anne Scheiber did in death, I am not sure if that lesson is worth her lesson of how not to live. But then I suppose life is full of ambivalence. The trick, I think, is to learn from everything — to learn from Anne Scheiber's life how not to spend our time on this earth, how a Jewish life is not to be. And to learn from her death what being a Jew is about, 'understanding that what we leave behind is our good deeds. May her memory be for a blessing. ❑ Berlin Plans Trade Center Berlin (JTA) — The recent an- nouncement of the 1997 opening of the Jewish Trade and Com- munication Center is another move toward rebuilding what once was a thriving Jewish neighborhood in the eastern part of this city. The new building, which will house a permanent exhibit on Jewish culture and trade, will be located on Oranienburger Strasse in eastern Berlin's Sche- unenviertel, a pre-World War II center of Jewish, culture that has been undergoing a renewal. The Jewish Trade and Com- munication Center will be near the newly reconstructed Neue Synagogue, which is home to Centrum Judaica, a center for Jewish learning and an exhibit on Berlin Judaism. The private company over- seeing the project has indicated that it will open a Jewish restau- rant and bagel bakery. In addition, plans for a Jew- ish bookstore and a Judaica shop are under way as well as a ser- vice for special events and a trav- el agency. Jewish organizations and pro- fessionals have already discussed renting space from the center for communication and trade. WINTER CLEARANCE SALE ALL FALL.
